| Mooney Falls. The highest and most majestic, Mooney is a roaring thunderous falls that drops about 200 feet. Access is only possible by climbing down a narrow ledge (images ahead), Caution this trail can be slippery from the waterfall spray or from rainy weather. These falls are right after the campgrounds, which cover 3/4 of a mile of the canyon. You will run into another set of porta-potties at the end of the campgrounds and Mooney Falls is about 100 yards further. Stay to your left of the canyon (heading down) to find the down climb it's not as obvious is it may seem. It's hard to get a good picture from the bottom of these falls. The spray from the 200 foot fall is cooling, but annoying when your trying to get a picture. Plan to spend some time at these falls they are great for swimming. If you swim up behind the falls there is a little cave behind them you can crawl up into. Beaver falls is another 2 miles down from here, but I did not get to them on this trip. |
